Francisca Castillo

Research Assistant

As a Doctor of Dental Surgery, my main interest focuses on the role of host-oral microbiota interactions in the onset and progression of immuno-inflammatory oral diseases. During my undergraduate thesis, I investigated the immunogenicity and virulence potential of the extracellular capsule of Porphyromonas gingivalis, in a mice model of periodontitis. Currently, I am joining the Villablanca Lab as a Research Assistant, where I expect to gain more insights into mechanisms that underlie the complex dynamics of host-environment interactions as well as to develop expertise in the cutting-edge technologies carried out in the lab in order to improve my scientific background.
